Quick Synopsis:

Here is what you do. Drive to the Water Point Parking lot. Cross the street and go north on the PCT. Don’t stop until you hit the top (about 4 miles). Luckily, as opposed to many trail runs in Southern California, you get a decent warmup before you hit the crazy vertical. Mile three has nearly 500 ft. of elevation gain. You simply have to remind yourself that you are going to get all the climb back when you open up your stride on the downhill! The PCT in this area is definitely bomb-able on the downhill, and when in shape, my team can cut sub 5 minute pace on parts.

The PCT is moderately shady in the morning, a nice perk from the summer sun that will hit you on the way down. There are nice views of the Bouquet reservoir and the valleys down towards Santa Clarita. This is also a piece of the Leona Divide 50 Mile Ultra Marathon course, and therefore one of my friend’s favorite trail run spots.
